The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with NZQA, is currently developing a National Student Index (NSI). The NSI is a system that will be used to assign every tertiary student and National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) candidate a unique number. This number identifies students from each other and allows the Ministry to collect and combine the data needed to assess trends and policies within the tertiary sector.
